The wait is over friends! According to The Daily Mail, the powers that be at Christian Dior have finally announced who will fill the highly coveted creative director's seat. Drumroll please...............
Raf Simons of Jil Sander fame.
The position has been vacant since previous creative director John Galliano was dismissed in March 2011 following an anti-Semitic rant in a Paris bar, inciting a whirlwind of rumours about who was to take over the helm at one of the most influential design houses in the world. Designers from Marc Jacobs to Alber Elbaz to Haider Ackerman had been speculated as top choices for the top job at Dior in the 13 months that have passed so I am sure I am not the only one surprised about the appointment. Simons is renowned for his minimalistic designs at Jil Sander, a stark contrast to Galliano's famously flamboyant aesthetic.
Perhaps this is just what the House of Dior needs, Simons feminine and refined ready-to-wear shows for Jil Sander do bear similarities to the original Christian Dior. I'll be interested to see where he takes the couture line.
I'm holding out for Paris in July!
